APCOM was founded in 1969. Originally a manufacturer of parts for water heaters, APCOM started in a 10,000 square foot building and now has locations in Franklin and Cookeville, TN. In Franklin, we have expanded five times and currently operate in a 125,000 square foot building with 325 employees. APCOM purchased Volunteer Tool & Die, Inc., located in Cookeville, TN in 1982. At that time, Volunteer had about 20 employees and occupied a 16,000 square foot building. Our Cookeville facility was expanded to 54,000 square feet in September 1984 and added approximately 60 new jobs. Also, Cookeville began manufacturing products such as spuds, flanges, and main burners. Our Growth Our goal in 1969 was to make 3000 thermostats, our first product, a day. Now we sell over three and a half million thermostats a year. In fact, APCOM sells almost 40% of all thermostats in the United States.In 1973 APCOM began producing heating elements for electric water heaters, and in 1998 APCOM sold more than five million heating elements to our customers. Today, 50% of the heating elements used in the United States are APCOM elements. Our product line continues to expand into new areas and different industries.
